在谈及加密货币的长期发展时，马斯克直言，真正理解“货币”本质的人其实并不多。他以比特币为例指出，比特币在加密体系中具有重要的开创性意义，但其交易量有限、单笔交易成本较高，从设计和现实使用层面来看，并不适合作为高频交易型货币。

马斯克认为，在最基础的层面上，比特币更接近一种价值储存工具或资产配置选择，而不是用于日常支付的货币形态。相比之下，他提到，尽管 Dogecoin 最初是以玩笑形式被创造出来，但在交易效率和支付使用场景上，反而更具实用性。
