BlockBeats reported on August 18th that Decred, an L1 blockchain platform, announced the discovery of a vulnerability. A patch will be released on the evening of August 18th (Beijing time). Out of caution, the official recommendation is for users to disable voting and mining functions before upgrading. An official announcement will be released immediately after the patch goes live.
According to BlockBeats, on August 18th, TradingBeats monitoring showed that after a significant rise in SNDK, the largest short seller, a whale starting with 0xefe, currently holds approximately 17,200 short SNDK contracts, with a position value of approximately $29.561 million. The average entry price was $1475.1, resulting in a floating loss of approximately $4.208 million and a return of approximately -166.0%. Despite this substantial loss, the whale continued to add approximately $2.578 million in short positions between August 15th and 16th.
In addition to SanDisk, the whale also shorted approximately 10,500 shares of Micron Technology (MU) with 10x leverage, with a position value of approximately $10.343 million. The average entry price was $870.7, and the current unrealized loss is approximately $1.227 million, representing a return of approximately -134.6%.
The whale's overall strategy was "long precious metals, short storage": its long gold positions were worth approximately $56.326 million, with an average price of $4,182.5, resulting in a floating profit of approximately $2.782 million; it also had a small profit on copper contracts. However, its two short positions in SNDK and MU had a combined floating loss of approximately $5.435 million, and the profits were insufficient to cover the losses in storage.

According to BlockBeats, on August 18th, based on Bitget market data, the South Korean KOSPI index closed down 1.55% at 6869.80 points. Samsung Electronics fell 2.19%, while SK Hynix rose 1.03%.
The Nikkei 225 index closed down 2.54% at 67,460.73 points.
