Beating AI News Flash: A batch of internal documents have been released in the copyright case filed by The New York Times against OpenAI and Microsoft. Brent Hecht, Microsoft's Director of Applied Science, once described the massive scraping of web content to train AI as "an unprecedented and astonishing theft," and possibly even "the largest labor theft in human history."
Nick Turley, then head of ChatGPT, also stated that AI products pose an "existential threat" to publishers, essentially being content substitutes, and the more powerful they are, the greater the substitution effect. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella acknowledged in his testimony that chatbots allow users to receive answers directly, reducing their need to access the original source.
Another internal Microsoft document refers to this model as a "death loop": AI steals revenue from content creators, quality content decreases, and ultimately, this also affects the training of the AI itself. The plaintiff also cited internal Microsoft data claiming that Copilot brought 83% to 93% fewer clicks to news websites such as The New York Times compared to traditional Bing search.
OpenAI and Microsoft still maintain that using copyrighted content to train AI constitutes fair use. Microsoft states that Hecht's remarks are merely a personal opinion, do not represent the company's position, and are not a legal conclusion regarding copyright issues.
According to BlockBeats, on September 20th, Farside monitoring data showed that US Bitcoin spot ETFs saw a net inflow of $6.1 million this week, while Ethereum spot ETFs saw a net outflow of $140.6 million.
BlockBeats reported on September 20th that Binance Wallet announced the launch of a Pre-Access program powered by PancakeSwap. This program allows users to gain indirect exposure to promising private companies before their potential IPOs through tokenization. The service is accessible through Binance Wallet and operates on a fully on-chain, self-custodied model. The first project is expected to be announced soon.
Users can increase their Pre-Access quota through Alpha points and on-chain bStocks trading volume and holdings. All related assets are traded on-chain within the user's own wallet and are managed by the user.
Binance Wallet stated that Pre-Access is only part of its on-chain traditional finance (TradFi) strategy, and that it will integrate Pre-Access, RWA, and other products in the future to provide users with a unified on-chain investment portal. The platform claims that these early-stage investment opportunities, previously restricted by location, wealth level, and institutional status, are gradually being opened to ordinary users.
