According to Odaily Planet Daily, Kostas Chalkias, co-founder and chief cryptographer of Sui blockchain development company Mysten Labs, stated that he has leased a dedicated factory at a secret location to mass-produce quantum-secure hardware wallet cards for Sui. The project aims to keep the cost of a single quantum card key below $10 and achieve NFC quantum signatures in 1 to 2 seconds. Chalkias stated that the project is being driven by him in his personal time outside of work and may fund cards for users who cannot afford to purchase them. This plan is partly inspired by the recent Coldcard hardware wallet incident, but the vulnerability was not a quantum attack. Coldcard maker Coinkite disclosed that a firmware vulnerability in Coldcard, dating back to a 2021 update, bypassed the hardware random number chip, generating keys using predictable software processes related to device serial numbers. Attackers began transferring funds on July 30th, with losses rising to approximately 2055 BTC, involving over 7700 addresses, worth nearly $130 million. At the protocol level, Sui plans to incorporate two quantum-resistant signature schemes approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), one for everyday accounts and the other for high-value Move vaults. Of these, 954 bitcoins were pledged as collateral for $35 million in debt, leaving only 325 unrestricted, a significant decrease from the 1,375 bitcoins held on June 30th. In the first half of this year, Empery Digital also sold 1,167 bitcoins, raising $80.1 million, and spent $54 million on share buybacks, repaying $50 million in repurchase financing, and another $10 million loan.
