Metis is a new milestone in the history of Layer 2. Metis is a fork of that aims to improve on the current more popular competitors. Metis seeks to provide the standard advantages of Optimistic Rollups, For example low cost (< $1) , high speed (less than a second) and Ethereum-level economic security . But beyond that, it plans to differentiate its platform by offering a more decentralized design, native data storage, faster withdrawals to the Layer 1 Ethereum main chain, and improved availability for DApp providers. 
 Although Metis uses a fork of Optimism's OVM, it adds features designed to improve on the original design. These features include:

 Highly decentralized -- Instead of centralized Optimism, Metis designed multiple virtual machine (multi-chain) support, Peer Nodes, Sequncer Pool and other mechanisms, and opened the validation Nodes to the community. EVM equivalent - No changes are required to the existing smart contract.

IPFS consolidation -- Faster validation when publishing state changes to Ethereum due to the use of Rangers than cheaper data storage options with ancillary solutions.

Polis Middleware - Provides templates and support for enhanced development environments for developers new to the crypto space.

 Multiple execution layers - Metis will allow DAC to start a new MVM execution environment to expand capacity as block space requirements increase.

 Licensing environment - DAC can customize access control to its MVM instances.

In addition, , Metis is unique in that: 1. Everyone can publish an on-chain DAO or DAC, run and manage their own communities, applications, and enterprises, and Metis is the tool to do all of this. 2. Metis services are not limited to the DAO level, but have a standard module to measure everyone in the DAO, including wallets, RP's, various attributes, and basic Optimistic Governance (OG) mechanisms. When two people want to collaborate, Metis helps them establish connections and trust and perform detailed tasks. 
 In addition to its functional advantages, Metis also has great achievements in terms of security: the security level is very high, all business activities are carried out on the side chain, with high privacy and visibility only to the participating collaborators. When a Layer-2 transaction is packaged and uploaded to Layer-1, game theory and Metis' additional Layer of permissions ensure the process is secure.

 Details of Metis' economic system 
Metis tokens were first distributed publicly on May 13, 2021 through IEO in IDO on the PAID network and gate. IO. After launching as an IDO at $5, METIS quickly rose to $8, then traded around $5 for three months before topping out at $100. 
Metis tokens have three basic usage scenarios in Metis Layer 2 platform:

 Pledge for DAC - DAC contributors must pledge Metis to become collators, participate in collaborations, or start a new MVM layer.

 Reward -- DACs and Rangers were each awarded Metis tokens for their contributions to the fraud challenge. These participants may also be penalized Metis for violations. 
</li>
</ul>
 The total amount of Metis tokens is 10,000,000, and the circulation market value is about 126 million. 
Metis allocated 49.3% (or 4.93 million Metis) to community projects (airdrops and community participation incentives), markets such as decentralized exchanges (to obtain adequate trading liquidity), early contributors (public and private investors), teams and the MetisLab Foundation. The tokens allocated to the team, the foundation, and the private investors have 12-18 month exit timetables, respectively, making the price volatility of METIS relatively low in the early days. 
Metis has earmarked the remaining 5.07 million tokens for a 10-year incentive plan to reward network participants who process transactions, such as sequesters, Rangers and community members who process transactions (a process Metis calls "transaction mining").

 On November 15, Metis and its investor partners launched Genesi, a $100 million ecosystem DAC dedicated to blockchain projects joining the Metis ecosystem. In addition, Metis cooperates with Telegram Messenger, ImePlatform, and Gorilla Hash, an intelligent platform with encrypted wallet and DeFi tools, to accelerate ecological construction and development. 
 In addition, Metis will be launching a series of exciting new products with more improvements and upgrades to the main network before December. In the meantime, Metis will continue to build more partnerships with projects across multiple domains, including Web2 developers as well as Web2 projects, the header DeFi protocol, NFT, DAO, games, and more.
